Daily Schedule and Updated 2020-2021 Calendar

For 2020-2021, the daily academic schedule has been reworked from a seven-day rotating block schedule to a five-day block schedule. The weekly schedule was developed with consideration of online fatigue, access to teachers, preservation of community time, and school- and work-life balance, as well as the ability to transition between remote and blended learning as needed. In addition, a five-day academic schedule is understood to be more compatible with family schedules when students are working remotely and supportive of the cohort model for blended learning, when student groups will alternate working on campus.

As is traditional, we’ll refer to each day by a letter: A day, B day, etc. Classes will meet on A, B, D, and E days. C days are devoted to community time, and all C-day activities and meetings will be online for both cohorts, whether we are in remote learning or blended learning.

Each class period is approximately an hour long, depending on the division. When learning remotely, students may be engaged synchronously or asynchronously during a class period, depending on their teacher’s plan for the day. A teacher may include within a given class period, for example, a short synchronous lesson with guided practice, followed by independent work.

The 2020-2021 school calendar has also been revised, arranged with an eye toward NCS eventually moving to blended learning.

Here are updated major dates on the 2020-2021 NCS calendar.
